James Budrow is from Ottawa, Ontario, and grew up skiing out of Calabogie. At the age of 14 he was in a serious farm accident, in a side-by-side roll over, which left him with a mangled extremity in his left ankle. After being airlifted to the nearest hospital, and multiple surgeries to try and save his foot, the decision was made to amputate, as he was moved closer to home to CHEO in Ottawa. Where he spent the rest of the summer in and out of the OR due to other complications, rehabbing and staring down the long road to recovery.
Taking his opportunity, James got connected with people in the para alpine world, wanting to see how far he could go in the sport of para alpine skiing. With his debut races at provincial games, leading into a Canada Winter Games silver at the 2023 games in PEI. The next year he made it onto the Provincial team where he is currently working incredibly hard to realise his dreams of making it up to the national team and to the top step including the Paralympics. After multiple podiums and victories at the NORAM level through the 2024/25 season, James has his sights set on continuing to learn, grow and hone his skills on and off the hill.
