I am Justin Carpentier, an alpine snowboard racer from Montréal. I am now in my second year on the NextGen program of the Canada Snowboard National Team. After many years racing for Quebec’s provincial team, I now represent my country on the international stage.

Snowboarding has always been a part of my family. Both my parents enjoy the sport, and I had the privilege to race alongside both my older brothers for a couple of years. I started at the bottom of my first races and gradually inched my way to the top of the pack. I went from finishing 37th at the 2016-2017 NorAm Cup standings to ending 4th overall last year. In 2022-2023, I made 5 podiums and got my first victory in a North American Cup race. My progression shows all the dedication and efforts I put in every year to be a better athlete.

I participated in two different World Junior Championship events, in Russia and Austria. The first World Cup race of the 2023-2024 season in Italy will be my 10th World Cup start of my snowboarding career.

During the summer, I work full-time in a restaurant as a cook to support part of the costs of my snowboarding season. The off-season is a chance for me to train intensely in the gym to reach the best physical shape I can achieve. I also get to train on the South American continent and on the glaciers of Europe before the winter season officially begins.

I’m also fully dedicated in getting my degree in Business and Administration at HEC Montréal. Being a student athlete is challenging but it’s teaching me a lot about discipline and organization.

Travelling around the globe to train and race on my snowboard is a blessing and I’ll always be grateful for all the support I got and will get in the future.
