I am a 16-year-old alpine ski racer from Thunder Bay, Ontario—a northern city well known for its long winters, outdoor culture and producing hockey players. I began skiing at a young age and developed a love for alpine racing early on. I participate in a bunch of sports (including hockey), but skiing has always been where I feel the most inspired and challenged. Growing up in a smaller, somewhat isolated area has presented unique challenges, but it also has allowed excellent opportunities to develop as a ski racer. We have two great ski areas within about 20 minutes from anywhere in the city and a small but dedicated race community. I will be one of a very small number of FIS racers from the area this season and I feel very honoured to be selected to train and compete with the Ontario Development Ski Team across the country. It’s a big opportunity to work with some of the province’s top coaches and athletes, and I’m excited to make the most of it.
Outside of skiing, I am a dedicated student managing academic responsibilities alongside a demanding training and travel schedule. I stay active year-round through competitive xc, enduro and downhill mountain biking with the Fresh Air Racing team, as well as rowing, hockey, football, strength training, and dryland conditioning. I am proud to represent my region and recognize the privilege and responsibility that goes with it, and I hope to serve as a positive role model for younger athletes. My commitment to sport is demonstrated by my discipline, focus, and a strong work ethic.
Some highlights include:
-Competed in U14 and U16 OCUP Finals qualifying for Can Ams twice as a U14 and Eastern Championships twice as a U16
-Qualified for Team Ontario Whistler Cup team as both a U14 and U16
-Podiums at many local races and races in the USSA Central Division
My current goals include:
-Continuing to lower my FIS points in Slalom and Giant Slalom
-Expanding my experience and confidence in Super-G
-Representing Thunder Bay and Ontario in national and international events
-Constantly improving my physical conditioning, race strategy, and overall performance
Long-term, I would like to pursue alpine racing at the post-secondary and/or national level, and to represent my region with pride.
Thank-you to everyone who has supported me along the way, and for your consideration in supporting my journey now.
