I am Griffin Mason, Snowboard Cross (SBX) athlete, born in 2004 and raised in Wakefield, QC. With five ski hills in our area and parents who pioneered snowboarding in the '90s, I was destined to spend winters on the slopes as soon as I could strap on a board. I made my first turns at Ski Vorlage, located a block from my elementary school, and was there everyday after school all winter long.
In February 2015, at the age of 11, I began my racing career with my dad,Tom Mason, as my coach and training at Mont Ste Marie (MSM). Snowboarding is a family affair. My two siblings, Johnny and Emmy, are CASI snowboard instructors and coaches and my mom, Carly Woods, is an instructor, coach, and logistics queen. We are truly a snowboard family.
As a member of the Quebec Snowboard Team, since 2018, my race experiences have focused on the provincial and North American circuit with one or two World Cup races for the last three seasons. This 2026/2027 I will proudly be wearing the maple leaf as a member of the Snowboard Canada SBX Next Gen Prospect team and will be competing with the best snowboarders in the world. Me – a young kid from Wakefield, Quebec!
SBX is a thrilling sport but as with most winter sports at this level, it’s an expensive one. I support myself by working as an arborist, cutting firewood and snow making. I also help design, build, and maintain SBX tracks. And, with my partner, Julia Gilmour, I spend every free minute building our home on a beautiful piece of land near Wakefield, Quebec.
