My name is Evan Rebane, and I am an 18-year-old cross-country skier from Ottawa, Ontario. I began skiing with my family when I was three and started racing with Nakkertok Nordic two years later. In my first year of eligibility, I earned a place on Ontario’s junior provincial team. I have since progressed to the highest level of the provincial program and have been accepted to train full-time at the Centre national d’entraînement Pierre-Harvey. For the 2026–2027 season, I am taking a gap year to focus fully on becoming an international-level athlete.
I now train more than 600 hours each year, and that commitment is producing encouraging results. At the 2026 Canadian Cross-Country Ski Championships, I placed second in the sprint qualifier, sixth in the sprint final and second in the team sprint. I also finished sixth among 2008-born U18 athletes in the national aggregate as well as 3rd in 2024. Other highlights include a 12th-place finish at World Junior Trials, consecutive OFSAA championships in 2025 and 2026, and top-12 Eastern Cup results in the u20 category. My immediate goal is to qualify for the 2027 FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Otepää, Estonia; my long-term goal is to represent Canada internationally.
Reaching this level requires a significant personal investment. My annual training and competition costs are expected to approach $30,000, including team fees, travel, training camps, race entries, equipment and sport-support services. Donations through Snow Athletes Canada will help cover these eligible expenses and allow me to concentrate on training, competing and continuing my development.
