Hi! My name is Emma James, I’m an 18 year old ski racer from Collingwood Ontario, I grew up living in Toronto making the trip up to Collingwood to ski on weekends at the Osler Bluff ski club. When I made the step from u16 to fis I decided to move up to Collingwood to go to school and continue skiing on the Ontario Development team. This was a big commitment for me moving away from my family and friends and starting fresh but it was worth it to pursue my goals. After my second year of fis I met the qualifications for the Ontario Ski Team, which has been one of my goals since I was very young. This year I finished the season ranked 5th in Canada for u18 in slalom, and 6th u18 in super G. I was very happy with my ranking in slalom as I almost halved my FIS points in my second year. So far in my fis career I have had 23 U18 podiums, 5 overall podiums, and 1 FIS win, and would like to keep adding to those numbers!
My whole life I have loved any sport and any challenge that comes my way, I grew up doing gymnastics, diving and soccer at pretty high levels, as well as any school team I could join! But skiing is the one that stuck. I also work in the gym 5 days a week during the off season to maintain the strength it takes to be an elite athlete.
I am willing to do anything to achieve my goals in ski racing to go D1 or make the national team! I have received tremendous support from Alpine Ontario, my family, friends, coaches, and sponsors through my fis career. Partnering with Snow Athletes Canada allows me to raise money to put towards the high cost of travel, training and equipment and more that comes with being a ski racer from Ontario.
