Simon Fournier – On the Road to the 2026 Olympics in Cortina
I am an independent alpine ski racer proudly representing Canada on the world stage as I pursue my Olympic dream. At 28 years old, I am committed to achieving excellence in alpine skiing, with a focus on Slalom and Giant Slalom as I aim for the 2026 Olympics in Milan/Cortina.
I spent six seasons on the Canadian National Team (2016–2020, 2023–2024) and graduated from the University of Denver in 2023 with a degree in Finance, earning Cum Laude honors. My career highlights include two top-30 finishes at the 2019 World Ski Championships in Åre, Sweden—24th in Slalom and 30th in Giant Slalom—winning the North American Cup Overall and Giant Slalom titles in 2023–2024, becoming the Canadian National Champion in 2022, and competing as a FIS World Cup racer.
Project Boréal – A New Vision for High-Level Alpine Skiing in Quebec
Project Boréal is an ambitious initiative designed to establish an elite and independent alpine ski team. Designed as a modern, human-centered, and high-performance alternative to traditional structures, this exclusive team targets high-level Canadian athletes in pursuit of North American titles, international exposure, and the Olympic dream.
The project has a dual objective: to provide personalized support (technical, physical, and mental) through targeted training camps and strategic competitions, while building a sustainable structure through strong funding and increased visibility. Jonathan Blanchard will be leading the project.
The project addresses several current challenges:
- The lack of flexibility and support in existing structures for elite Canadian and Quebec athletes.
- The need for tailored coaching to maximize each skier’s potential.
- The importance of representing Canadian and Quebec excellence with passion, discipline, and resilience.
Boréal embodies strong values: self-improvement, excellence, enjoyment, and commitment. It is a small, close-knit team focused on performance, innovation, and elevating Canadian alpine skiing on the world stage.
Path to the Olympics
I strongly believe that joining the Project Boréal ski team will provide the environment I need to achieve my Olympic dream and represent Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics. My focus will be split between Slalom and Giant Slalom, where I believe I have the greatest potential to excel. My goal is to train in a national team-level environment tailored to my needs, giving me the best opportunity to succeed on the World Cup circuit and ultimately qualify for the 2026 Olympics. To secure my Olympic spot, I aim to reach a top-25 World Cup result in Slalom and/or Giant Slalom during the 2025–2026 season.
